Benin v. Uganda Preview

October 10th, 2008 | By: shane | No Comments »

Benin journey to Uganda this weekend for the final match of the opening group stage. For Benin it is a meaningless match. They have surprisingly won the group after only five games and have advanced to the final 20.

For Uganda on the other hand the match is full of meaning. Quite simply Uganda has everything to play for. They can still advance as one of the best runners up and are currently in a fierce battle with Angola for that second spot. With Angola hosting Niger in a match that they will almost certainly win, it puts Uganda in a position where they must defeat Benin to have any chance.

Since the game does not matter at all and Benin is on the road I expect a defeat. The Squirrels will likely field a lot of reserve players and do not have the incentive to win which Uganda has. Still Benin has been in amazing form and could sneak out a result. I expect a lot of goals and a desperate Uganda side to come out as 3-2 winners.
